Hi there!
I’m Sophie, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and proud mum of two wonderful little girls.
Originally from Belgium, I’ve spent most of my life living abroad — between Africa and the Middle East — and now call Dubai home.
When my eldest daughter was born here six years ago, I thought I was well-prepared for breastfeeding. I’d read all the right books/facebook groups and felt confident it would come naturally. Plot twist — it didn’t! Those first few days were far more challenging than I expected.
Reaching out to an IBCLC changed everything. She reassured me, guided me through those early hurdles, and helped me trust myself and my baby. Once we found our rhythm, I was amazed by how powerful and rewarding breastfeeding could be — and I knew I wanted to help other mothers feel that same confidence and connection.
I decided to make a big change: I left my teaching career to stay home with my daughter and began the journey to become an IBCLC myself.
For me, breastfeeding became more than just feeding — it was a way to bond deeply with my baby and feel grounded in motherhood. I also realized how much we all need a village to support us, especially as expat mums living far from family. That’s why I do what I do today — to be part of that village and help other mums feel supported, informed, and empowered in their own journeys. 💗
About me
Why an IBCLC?
IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and are recognized worldwide as the gold standard in lactation care. To earn this credential, consultants complete extensive education in human lactation, accumulate at least 1,000 hours of breastfeeding support experience, and pass a rigorous board certification exam.
IBCLCs are required to recertify every five years to ensure their knowledge and skills remain up to date with the latest research and best practices.
What makes IBCLCs unique is their expertise in caring for both the lactating parent and the baby — offering a holistic, evidence-based approach that supports the breastfeeding relationship as a whole.
